Project Description

MELT

MELT series derives from the poetry of the neglect of architectural forms. Beginning with pure geometric shapes built of stoneware clay, then covered with multiple layers of glazes and slips — Irina runs the pieces through numerous firings, those layers starting to melt, peel and decay; the ageing process of these architectural monoliths mimicked.

Finished with a top layer of white porcelain and salmon-pink or yellow gradient to form an outer skin, the resulting ceramic pieces, are left open to interpretation; nature’s shedding skin depicting man’s own passing of time.
